Comments:

Attended Augsburg College (1962);Graduated from U of M 1965 and married high school sweetheart Len B; Moved to California (1968) as Len attended graduate school; lived in Santa Barbara UCSB, Los Angeles UCLA and settled in SF Bay Area UC Berkeley; Raised four children; taught school part-time (gifted & talented seminars; technology lab; first grade; kindergarten); became involved in many school activities with children; traveled whenever possible; sabbatical in Germany etc.; traveled back to Minnesota as often as possible; will retire this year June 2010.
Len and I continue to be involved with our grandchildren as they grow, change and meet the challenges of life. Len is currently active with all levels of Boy Scouting, trying to establish troops in areas where there are few resources available. I enjoy substituting in grades k-2, help with Jr. Girl Scouts and am an officer in my educational sorority. We try to keep our schedules and calendars updated and in sync with each other but it's a challenge! We are happy to be healthy and we DID remember our 50th wedding anniversary. I just looked at the guest book and many of you were there to cheer us on. Thanks for being good friends to both of us. As nice as it is living in California (pray for rain!!) we feel very lucky to have grown up in Minnesota. It is our favorite place to visit and share "cabin life" with the grandchildren. The values, experiences, friendships and "deep roots' planted in us by growing up in South Mpls and the Roosevelt High community are memorable gifts with stories we love to share and laugh about now! We are happy to be in touch with many of you through the Roosevelt Website--Thanks so much to all of you who keep it updated. Those of us who live "away from home" appreciate it so much!

School Story:

I have fond memories of "May Day" and all the excitement of the ceremony, "big dresses," staying on the "swing" and the "magic wand dance". I wonder who created all that fun!
My worst nightmare was having Mr. Blake come to my homeroom and bang his yardstick on the desk while telling Mr. Heller, my homeroom teacher, that some of the basketball players were staying out too late! Then he would look around the room while I hid behind Fred Warn.

Mr Cannon was my tenth grade Biology teacher. I remember him as one who made personal contact and knew when more help was needed.  As others have said , he had great intuition concerning each of us and contributed a great deal to RHS. Thank you to a great  great teacher! My sincere condolences to his family.     Marlyce K. Benson (Bjeldanes)

I remember many happy times growing up in the Keewaydin Neighborhood with a great group of friends including Roger (Miss Swainbeck's 6th grade class, hanging at Lake Nokomis) It's comforting to know that those friends were caring for each other even now.  My sincere condolences to Roger's family. Fred and I were "home room buddies" and friends who shared many experiences involving basketball, football and other RHS events.  He was a special contributor to our class and a leader in a kind, quiet, gentle way. We were indeed fortunate to have him at RHS.  My sincere condolences to his family.   Rest in Peace

As we read remembrances of our friend Roger written by classmates, we see clearly that he was someone special with a kind heart, a big smile, and a twinkle in his eye.  Wherever he traveled, he left footprints of kindness and love; humor and inspiration; joy and faith.  We join others in sending our deepest sympathy to Peggy and her family.   Sincerely Leonard and Marlyce Bjeldanes

I was saddened to hear of Joan's passing.  She was a member of our Keewaydin School's 6th grade class. (photo in Ted-Bits:Teacher: Miss Swanbeck).  I remember Joan as an outstanding, gracious, intelligent and active student as she grew up in the Nokomis and Roosevelt communities.  Our paths did not cross in California  but thanks to Peggy Crist Barrett for sharing the special friendship she had with Joan including her last conversation.  My sincere condolences to her lovely family and close friends.

Hi Marlyce,

Been a while since catching up. Saw you commented Gary Engfer's death. Another Keewaydan playmate gone. Hope you and your family are doing well. I'm in San Diego with my Daughter Katie and Little Emily. Played Golf with my daughter yesterday at a very special golf course - was fun! She still plays well. I'm returning on the 20th spent Fathers day here which was nice. Naslund had Knee Surgery but will be ready for golf July 1. Hoff usually invites us out to his course in Eden Prairie, so looking forward to that. Probably going to sell my house in Sept. Not sure where I will settle, but would like to be in San Diego area. See Jeri on FB once and a while, I guess you are not on FB. Hope everything is good with you. XO Billy B
