Hello: I grew up three blocks from Roosevelt High School, I went to most of Elementary school at John Erickson, then to Standish Elementary for one year (1st grade). Then, I went to Folwell Junior High, and also to Roosevelt for about two months. After, my family moved to Columbia Heights, where I graduated in the class of 1961.
I’m thankful for spending most of my childhood in such a beautiful community. Swimming at Lake Hiawatha, also on Big Beach and Little Beach Nokomis, as well as the small dam between them on Minnehaha Creek. Fishing off Cedar Ave Bridge, Sliding and ice skating at Sibley Field, and Ice Skating at Hiawatha school Park was absolutely wonderful, to say the least. Minnehaha Falls, the creek, the caves on the Mississippi River, the Railroad tracks, and playing ball in the street. Quite the adventure for a boy growing up.
Oh I almost forgot the awesome kids I grew up with. Jeffery Benson, Ron Cunningham, Bob & Rosemary Olson, Philip Hafvenstein, Pat Thyson, Sharon Girton, Connie Tohner, Betty Ondick, Mary Gallagher, Diane Harten, my brother, sisters, and their friends to name a few. Thanks to the Roosevelt Committee for allowing me to be part of this website.
