I was saddened to read of Joan's passing.  I remember Joan as a beautiful, sweet, and intellligent young woman during my years at Nokomis Junior High and Roosevelt High School.  My sincere sympathy at this difficult time for her family and friends...she will be remembered fondly.  Dennis Dvorak

I met Joan at Nokomis Jr. High in the 7th grade.  We were in the same homeroom, and became close friends.  Our friendship lasted until she passed away on January 16th. As adults we communicated by letters, e-mails and telephone.  The last time we got together in person was the Fall of 2016 when my son got married in Monterey, CA.  In recent years Joan lived in Modesto, and she drove down to Pacific Grove and we spent the day exploring the Monterey/Pacific Grove area. We drove the 17 mile drive, stopped at Pebble Beach Golf Course, drove the ocean coast and had lunch.  We laughed, hugged, and took a lot of pictures. Joan called me on January 10th to tell me she was ill. We talked and it was fun reminiscing about when we were teenagers.  I didn't realize that it would be the last time we would speak.  I am so grateful for that conversation.  Joan was an intelligent and nice person.  She had a great personality and could be quite funny.  I will miss her very much.

I have very fond memories of Joan.  She was on the Sagamore yearbook staff our senior year and covered the Faculty/Academic section with one other staffer.  She was a whiz, always dependable and so pleasant.  It's fun to browse the Academic section in the '61 yearbook to see some of her obvious good work.  Note the quote by Teddy Roosevelt.  She must have been a dynamic nutritionist.  My sympathies go to her family, to Jim.

I'm so sorry to learn of Joan's death.  I remember her well from high school and was always in awe of her intelligence, beauty and grace under pressure.  She was a terrific roll model to attempt to live up to.  My sincere condolences to her family.

I didn't know Joan very well at RHS, but we had some fun chats/lunches when I was on faculty at UC Davis and she came o campus as part of her job.  Wonder, sweet woman.

I was saddened to hear of Joan's passing.  She was a member of our Keewaydin School's 6th grade class. (photo in Ted-Bits:Teacher: Miss Swanbeck).  I remember Joan as an outstanding, gracious, intelligent and active student as she grew up in the Nokomis and Roosevelt communities.  Our paths did not cross in California  but thanks to Peggy Crist Barrett for sharing the special friendship she had with Joan including her last conversation.  My sincere condolences to her lovely family and close friends.

It was very sad to hear of Joan’s passing.  We were neighbors from grade school through high school.  I am so happy that I was able to see her again at our 50th reunion.  God Bless Joan and her children....and her brother Jim.

I was also sad to hear of Joan's passing.  Although I did not know her well while  at Roosevelt enjoyed talking to her at our 50th reunion.  My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
