Robert (Bob) Kordosky

I was saddened to hear of Jim’s passing, and send my prayers, and thoughts to his family.

Jim and I grew up a mere 4 blocks apart, and yet never really got to know each other in the neighborhood or at Roosevelt. Kind of strange but true.

In the early 60’s, perhaps 1963 or 1964 we were both hired my Minneapolis Honeywell, and went to work on the 11th floor of the downtown plant. Fifth street, and fifth avenue north.

We worked there, side by side, building what was called the V5034 gas valve. We got to know each other better than we ever did in the neighborhood, and I came to consider Jim my friend.

Jim was still single, and I was married, but we hit it off, and I developed great respect for Jim as a person.

We were both young, hard working, and open to extra hours, which many of the old timers were not, so we ended up working a lot of overtime together, and not always on our own line.

I think that for the two of us it was such easy work, if not high paying, we just reveled in the experience.

We partied together a few times, once at my house, and other times at planned get togethers with our group leader Bill Durinburger, who was a terrific guy.

After about 9 months we both got laid off, and kind of went our separate ways, but the time working together stuck with me, as did my respect for the Jim I got to know.

I saw Jim at one of the reunions, and had a brief conversation. I think he was just on the verge of retirement, or had just, I’m not sure which, but I found him to be the same warm, personable guy that I remembered from way back then.

So I thank you Jim for who you were, and what our time working together meant to me, and what I learned from the experience.

Bob
